The evolution of AI in team collaboration

For a time, AI assistants have been used by people on their own. They acted like tools someone would ask for help, and they’d give a quick answer or assist with a task. But these tools had real limits. They forgot earlier conversations, and they couldn’t work well with teams.

Anthropic is changing this with Claude Tag, an AI built directly into the tools teams already use, like Slack. That means Claude can work alongside people as something closer to a team member. Anthropic has been using this system internally, and the company says 65% of its product team’s code is now created by it.

This reflects a broader shift in how AI gets used, toward systems that act more on their own: breaking tasks into smaller pieces, using tools, and working with people without being asked at every step.

How Claude Tag works in Slack

Claude Tag lets teams add Claude to their Slack workspace, where it can access selected channels, tools, and data. When someone types “@Claude” in a channel, Claude reads the conversation, breaks the task into pieces, and posts results back into the channel.

There’s a single Claude per channel, so it works with everyone on the team. Due to Claude recovering earlier conversations, tasks can be completed by new people without the need to re-explain things each time.

Teams can also let Claude act on its own, following up on conversations or surfacing important updates without being asked. Claude Tag can write code or run analyses directly because it can connect to tools, data, and codebases.

Key benefits and real-world impact

Claude Tag builds on earlier AI tools by keeping context over time and working alongside people directly. Because it remembers past conversations, people don’t have to repeat themselves, and teams can see what Claude has done.

Claude can be handed tasks directly; it can handle coding, data analysis, and team coordination, which frees people up to focus on judgment calls rather than routine work. Since they can hand tasks to Claude directly. Claude can also take a Slack conversation and turn it into a finished result, like a fixed bug.

Due to an administration-enforced limit on access and spending, teams can use Claude without added security or cost risks.

Availability, getting started, and the road ahead

Claude Tag became available on June 23, 2026, in beta for Claude Enterprise and Team customers on Slack. Anthropic plans to expand it to other platforms over time.

To get started, teams install the Slack app, choose which channels and tools Claude can access, and run tests to confirm a desired outcome. Teams already using Claude in Slack can migrate to Claude Tag, and eligible organizations can get introductory credits.

Claude Tag fits into a growing trend where, instead of waiting for individual requests, AI works alongside the team. Its current beta status on Slack is likely the first of several rollouts as Anthropic looks to expand to other platforms.
